Les Brown: You Have to Commit to Your Dreams

What would your life look like if you refused to settle and declared, “I will not be denied”? This powerful message from Les Brown is a reminder that commitment is the difference between wanting something and living it.

Les Brown: You Have to Commit to Your Dreams

What’s up, guys? Welcome back to The Daily Mastermind. I’m George Wright III, and today I’ve got something a little different for you—but I promise it’s straight fire.

It’s late. I’ve had a long day filled with meetings, and it's nearly 10 PM—but I couldn’t go to sleep without sharing this with you. Why? Because I know many of you are in the trenches—working long hours, battling overwhelm, trying to stay focused while juggling everything life throws your way.

This is for you.

A Word from My Mentor: Les Brown

I want to introduce you to someone who’s made a major impact in my life: Les Brown.

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know how much I admire this man. I’ve had the privilege of working with him, sharing meals, and learning from him in some of the most impactful conversations of my life.

His energy is contagious. His message is timeless. And today, I want to share a message from Les that’s all about one word: commitment.

What Is Commitment?

Les starts with a question that hits home:

What is your commitment to your dreams, your goals, your best life?

Commitment is what keeps the entrepreneur going when the results haven’t shown up yet. It’s what drives the leader who’s hearing more “no’s” than “yes’s.” It’s what makes a visionary speak their dream into existence—long before it makes sense to anyone else.

Les Brown says commitment is deciding, “I will do this,” and then staying in the game until you do.

Personal Story: Door to Door with Determination

Les shares a moment from his life when he was selling TVs door to door. His mom was ill. He needed to provide. And there was no option to fail.

So, night after night, he'd knock on doors until 1 AM. Rejection after rejection. But he kept going.

That’s what commitment looks like in real life—not just motivational talk. It’s action in the face of exhaustion. It’s belief in the face of doubt. It’s knocking on the next door.

The Universe Responds to Commitment

“When you say you’re going to do it, the universe responds.”

Les reminds us that when you make a decision and refuse to be denied, something shifts. You activate your creative power. You attract opportunities. You build momentum.

This isn’t just about motivation—it’s about alignment. When you commit with conviction, the universe aligns to support you. But you’ve got to meet it halfway.

Commitment Is Uncomfortable

True commitment isn’t comfortable. It might mean…

  • Going back to school.
  • Starting from scratch.
  • Getting knocked down—and showing up again the next day.
  • Losing the house, the car, the pride—but not the vision.

Les slept on the floor of his office. He lost everything—but he kept his dream alive. That’s what commitment looks like when it’s tested.

Courage Over Comfort

Sometimes commitment means taking a stand that isn’t popular.

Les talks about being a state legislator and seeing people back down because they were afraid of upsetting someone in power. But as he says:

“Cowards ask, is it safe? Politicians ask, is it popular? But commitment asks, is it right?”

You’ve got to be willing to stand—even if you’re standing alone.

Listen to the Beat of Your Own Drum

You may be misunderstood. People may question you. You might even question yourself.

But if you’re committed, if you hear the beat of a different drum—you follow it. You go, not because it makes sense to others, but because it makes sense to you.

Practical Steps Toward Commitment

Here are a few things Les challenges us to do:

  • Back up, but don’t give up. Regroup if you have to—but don’t retreat.
  • Recommit through difficulty. Let hardship anchor your drive, not derail it.
  • Declare your intentions. Speak your dream out loud. Claim it. Own it.
  • Stand in the face of rejection. Let every "no" build your strength, not shake your belief.

Final Thought: This Is Your Time

“This is your time.”
“I commit my life…to living my dream.”

Les had the audience say those words—and I’m asking you to say them now.

Take a breath. Say it out loud:

This is my time. I commit my life…to living my dream.

That’s where it begins—with the decision. With the commitment.

So whatever’s in front of you today… step up. Stand tall. And stay committed.

Because as Les says:
“Nothing can resist a person with that kind of commitment.”
