George Wright III dedicated a recent episode of The Daily Mastermind to breaking down a conversation he had with Kevin Harrington, the entrepreneur and investor known from Shark Tank, for Valiant CEO Magazine. Rather than a live interview, George walks you through the key insights and strategies from that feature, translating them into practical steps you can apply to your own business today.

The central message is simple but urgent: your personal brand is not a side project. It is one of the most valuable assets you will ever build, and if you are not actively developing it, you are leaving credibility, relationships, and revenue on the table.

Why Richard Branson's Advice Changed Kevin Harrington's Trajectory

One of the most striking moments in the conversation was Kevin's reflection on a turning point in his career. He shared that Richard Branson told him directly that building a personal brand, even for someone already successful, would make all the difference in his long-term business outcomes.

"Richard Branson pointed out that the importance of having a personal brand, despite his success with everything else, will make all the difference in his long-term business."

That nudge from Branson reoriented Kevin's strategy. He stopped treating his personal brand as optional and started treating it as core infrastructure. George's point here is that if the advice matters for someone at Kevin Harrington's level, it matters even more for entrepreneurs who are still building.

How Personal Branding Translated Into Measurable Results

Kevin's business experience is concrete proof. He described how his ventures shifted once he committed to his personal brand. Over a million followers across platforms like TikTok gave him reach that fed directly into new business categories: crowdfunding, product endorsements, and board positions.

The most compelling example was his involvement with Celsius. When Kevin joined the board of directors, the stock was worth 22 cents per share. Over the decade he was there, building his brand in parallel, the stock climbed to $200 a share. That kind of compounding growth, George notes, is not a coincidence.

"Personal branding can really unlock some big opportunities that ultimately lead to financial gain and professional recognition."

The takeaway George draws from this is that your brand grows alongside your business. You do not need to have everything figured out before you start. Progress to perfection.

The Power of Association When You Are Still Building

Not everyone has Kevin Harrington's reach yet, and Kevin addressed that directly. Through his Day with a Shark event, entrepreneurs who associate with his brand gain credibility by proximity. One company, Plume Social, raised $50,000 within 30 days of participating in that event, leveraging the trust Kevin's name carries.

George connects this to the broader strategy he uses through authority marketing: getting featured alongside established names creates indirect credibility leverage. You do not just want to be in the marketplace. You want to be seen in the right company.

Three Actionable Steps Kevin Recommends for Building Authority

When pushed for specific tactics, Kevin laid out three clear steps.

First, establish your authority with a written piece. A book, a booklet, or even a well-crafted PDF serves as a lead magnet that draws people into your world and signals expertise before they ever speak with you.

Second, produce video content consistently. Video builds rapport faster than any other format. When people see you regularly, they begin to feel like they know you. That mirror effect, as George calls it, creates the know, like, and trust factor that drives business relationships.

Third, run targeted digital ads to amplify what you are already creating. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Google allow you to extend visibility to people who would never find you organically. Unlike traditional media, digital gives you near-instant feedback on what is working.

Why Consistency and Authenticity Are Non-Negotiable

Kevin was clear that personal branding is a long-term play. Organic growth and relationship-building take time. He emphasized collaborating with influencers, producing content tailored to your audience rather than content for content's sake, and staying authentic to who you are.

"The biggest thing is to be consistent. The impact happens over time but authenticity is the key to really creating a brand that people gravitate to."

George reinforces this point with his own experience. He has watched clients build authority through consistent media features and seen it compound over months and years. The credibility you establish now pays dividends in ways you cannot fully predict upfront.

How to Measure Personal Brand Success

Kevin pushed back on the idea that personal brand ROI is immediate. Success shows up in relationships that keep bearing fruit years later, in opportunities that find you rather than the other way around, and in the credibility that makes every new venture easier to launch. Look for gradual results, trust the process, and stay consistent.

Action Steps

  • Start building your personal brand now, before you feel ready. Your brand can evolve as you do.
  • Create one authority piece: a book, a long-form article, or a detailed PDF that showcases your expertise and attracts your ideal audience.
  • Show up on video at least once a week. Consistency in video builds the trust and familiarity that convert into business.
  • Seek association with established brands, publications, and influencers in your space. Proximity to credibility is credibility.
  • Run small, targeted ad campaigns to amplify your best content and expand your reach beyond your existing audience.

Personal branding is not about instant results. It is about building an asset that compounds over time. Kevin Harrington's story is proof that the work you put in today, showing up consistently, building authority, and aligning your brand with the right opportunities, pays off in ways far beyond what you can currently see. It is never too late to start living the life you were meant to live.

All right, welcome back to The Daily Mastermind, guys. I'm super excited about today. I'm actually excited about the next 10 days because we're going to be featuring the top covers of 2024 that we've done with Valiant CEO Magazine. I'm doing this because we have a bunch of new stuff coming out, right? If this is the first time you're listening, my name is George Wright III. I'm your host, and I am here with your daily dose of inspiration, motivation, and education. And my goal is to help you to create your best life and really unleash your potential. So we are launching a couple of new things over the next couple of weeks. Number one, we'll be launching the Franklin Planner Podcast, which will be a series on leadership where we've partnered and JV'd with Franklin Planners. And we also have the Authority Podcast, which will be launching where I've partnered with my good friends at Valiant CEO Magazine and Authority Magazines. Now, Valiant CEO Magazine is a place that I've been able to use really well to drive consistency with the personal brands of clients and individuals that I work with. But last year, we featured just some incredible covers. Kevin Harrington from Shark Tank, Brandon Adams, Neil Patel, one of the best and most well-known marketers of all time. We've had Jay Feldman and many, many others. And you've heard me talk about Casey Fields and Kathy Ireland and our TV deal. and a lot of things have come out of these personal branding efforts. And so I'm excited to be able to share with you today the first of probably a 10-day, maybe seven-day series of our top interviews from last year. And what I've done is I've summarized these interviews with really key concepts. I want to share with you both the strategic question we asked, as well as the thoughts and strategies we got, and then some very actionable insights for you. And so our episode today is going to be about our interview with Kevin Harrington on how to unlock your success through personal branding. And nobody can do this better than him. He's an entrepreneur, investor, and key figure from Shark Tank. You know, his insights have built a huge personal brand and he's opened a ton of doors because of his expertise in building a personal brand. So I'm really excited to share this with you today. So let's get right into it. Okay. So the first question that we asked him was really all about the power of personal branding. We basically said, can you recall a specific moment or dialogue that he had with Richard Branson that sparked his interest in personal branding and kind of got him into this? And, you know, Kevin really shared a great turning point in his career. He said, Richard Branson pointed out that the importance of having a personal brand, despite his success with everything else, will make all the difference in his long-term business. That was a big takeaway that he got from Richard Branson. And so what I want you to really think about here is that you are the driving force behind your venture. Personal branding isn't just a marketing tool. Kevin talked about the fact that it's a key asset that you're building for long-term success. So just like Dan Kennedy says, personal branding is not an option anymore. It's a necessity, especially with digital platforms allowing anyone to amplify their voice. This is something that you have to implement into your business And Kevin really doubled down and emphasized that The next question we asked him was really about the impact of personal branding on his business We said how has focusing your personal brand impacted your business and your ventures that you're personally involved with compared to before your personal brand was really one of your priorities? He said that his ventures once were really heavily focused on his skillset and media strategies like most of us do. But he really saw explosive growth after he invested in his personal brand. And as an example, over a million followers across platforms like TikTok have helped him to integrate his personal brand into his new ventures like crowdfunding and product endorsements. And so it's become very strategic. he said um you know personal brand will not only add credibility and leverage but it's going to increase the value of your relationships and your opportunities and i i can really attest to that i've had a lot of people that we've put in valiant ceo um also say that same thing so as he said that we kind of dug a little deeper and said you know what are the breakthroughs and opportunities that have come you know could you outline for example you know concrete or something specific benefits and strategic breakthroughs that your personal brand has brought you and maybe give us examples of the accomplishment. And he had really a great example. He said early when he started working on his personal brand, he joined the board of directors at Celsius. It was an opportunity that he was given. And that's when the stock was worth like 22 cents. But as his personal brand grew over the 10 years that he was there, the stock in that company grew to $200 a share. So 22 cents to $200 a share, that's pretty epic. He basically took away from that that personal branding can really unlock some big opportunities that ultimately lead to financial gain and professional recognition. But building your brand isn't just about exposure. It's about making strategic moves that align with that evolving identity, right? So all of us have opportunities that are going to evolve as our brand evolves. This is why we don't want to wait to build a personal brand. We want to build it so that we can evolve along the way, right? Progress to perfection, right? So the fourth thing that I kind of, in this interview, we asked him was really around personal branding and action. He has this event called A Day with a Shark, and it sort of is designed to give insights for entrepreneurs and do a bunch of other things. But we asked him to give us maybe a success story because the idea here was other entrepreneurs that associate alongside Kevin were able to benefit. it. And he gave this example. He said, there's a company called Plume Social, and it raised about $50,000 within 30 days of being involved with his Day with a Shark event. And the reason he brought that up is because they were able to leverage the credibility of Kevin Harrington's brand. And his point with that was that even if you don't have a brand yet, association with established brands and influencers can elevate your credibility. And it leads to tangible business deals or fundraising and partnerships. And I really liked his response here because our whole goal with our authority marketing and the authority podcast that we're launching as well as Valiant CEO is that when you get featured alongside other big names there sort of an indirect credibility leverage that you get And I think that that a really really positive strategy that I think you need to adopt. So it's not just about getting in the marketplace, but getting alongside other big names. And Dan Kennedy talks about that as well. So as the interview progressed, we talked a little bit more about actionable steps. Like what can you do to build your brand? Give us some steps. And he said, okay, I'll give you three steps. He said, number one, establish your authority. You've got to write some kind of a piece like a book or a booklet or something that shows your expertise. Maybe that's a PDF. I don't know, but this serves as a lead magnet to get people attracted to your particular brand. Second, he said, you've got to produce video content and engage with your audience through video. It's really the number one way to build rapport and people, it's, you know, on a side note, it's that principle I talk about, that mirror effect. When people see you and they see you often, they trust you, they like you, they know you, they feel like they know you. You know what I mean. When you are following somebody online, you kind of feel like you know them personally. So establish your authority with something like a lead magnet, then build, you video content. And third, he said, you can run targeted ads and leverage this digital media idea. So I've talked a little bit about this because if you promote your brand through strategic ads, like Facebook, Instagram, Google, we use some things that automate visibility to our posts. That's a really powerful strategy too. So I thought those were three really great actionable steps. And so then we kind of got into a little bit of advice. We were like, you look, how do you navigate the digital landscape, right? Especially with the rise of social media, you know, have you found that specific platforms or strategies perform over others? And he said, you know, his brand really grew through TV and it had to shift to social media and platforms like TikTok and Instagram. And his team kind of tested a whole bunch of different things. But ultimately he said, digital platforms give you the power to experiment and fine tune your message. So invest in ads and things like that. What I love about this is in the past, so many of you know, with the big global brands that I've built, we were doing direct mail and radio and TV. And these things took four, five, six, seven, eight weeks to be able to, you know, execute and run and then get results and come back. With digital, you can get results like instantaneously, you know, what's working and what isn't. So definitely test with your personal brand, expose your brand out there, but then test. Kevin also talked about maintaining authenticity and building your brand because personal brand is, is kind of a long process sometimes, right? We, we think about organic traffic and personal branding as a long-term play. So we asked him how, you know, he could kind of share methods for evolving your brand over time and what his thoughts were on that. And he really emphasized, which I appreciate, the importance of maintaining your brand's authenticity. You know, he said, collaborate with influencers, produce constant, consistent content and tailor your, you know, to your audience needs. In other words, don't just do content for content's sake, do content tailored to your brand and your audience But he said the biggest thing is to be consistent The impact happens over time but authenticity is the key to really creating a brand that people gravitate to Now, as we kind of got to the end of the interview, we asked him, you know, a really key question. One is, you know, what methods do you use to gauge your success with your personal brand? How do you actually measure it or what indicators to use? And he said, personal branding isn't about instant gratification. He kind of gave an example of how a relationship he had built originally because of his brand still keeps paying for him and bearing fruit today. So he suggested you look for long-term results and gradual building of relationships, but success doesn't show up right off the bat. trust that your brand is working for you and you can be consistent. And that's the reason I'm highlighting his interview because everybody hears about personal branding, but Kevin Harrington is a very specific example of how that has translated to some epic success results. So I really wanted to highlight this and I wanted to highlight this interview with Kevin because I think it's super important that you understand the benefits of building a personal brand and you don't wait. A personal brand can evolve. Your personal brand doesn't have to be figured out, but you are absolutely underutilizing a key core asset if you are not building a personal brand in today's day and age, because it's not only going to pay for a lot of things with revenue and growth, but it's going to attract opportunities. It's going to add credibility. and I've said this many times, it's a very crowded marketplace right now. So if you're serious about building a business, and I know if you're listening to this, you're an entrepreneur, CEO, business owner, thought leader, coach, whatever it is, you've got to be building a personal brand.
