Your Thoughts Control Your Life: The Secret to Creating the Life You Want

Listen

George Wright III opens this episode of The Daily Mastermind by returning to the wisdom of one of his mentors, the late Robert Stuberg. Many people tell George they feel stuck and frustrated, even though, as he points out, we live in one of the most opportunity-rich moments in history. To answer that frustration, George shares part one of a classic Stuberg teaching called The Secret, a message about discovering the single principle that shapes everything in your life.

The heart of the teaching is deceptively simple and genuinely powerful: your thoughts control your life, and you control your thoughts. If you have ever wondered why some people attract happiness and prosperity while others with the same potential stay stuck, this is the idea worth sitting with.

Why Do So Many People Feel Dissatisfied?

Stuberg begins with a question worth asking yourself. At a time when comfort, choice, and opportunity are more abundant than ever, why do so many people feel unhappy? He references a survey in which 90 percent of respondents reported being dissatisfied with at least one major area of their lives, whether career, marriage, family, health, body image, or leisure.

Why is it that at a time in history when we have the most opportunities for happiness and the most chances for prosperity, more people than ever seem to be dissatisfied with what is going on in their lives?

The uncomfortable truth underneath the data is that dissatisfaction is often a decision, made quietly, somewhere along the way.

When Did You Decide You Could Not Have It All?

One of the most striking moves in this teaching is how it reframes your limits as choices. As children, most of us saw the world as vast and full of possibility. Somewhere along the line, those expansive dreams got boxed into what people call the real world. The invitation here is to notice the exact moment your fears took over, because naming that decision is the first step to reversing it.

You are not the victim of random events, other people, or fate, unless you have decided you are. That reframe puts the steering wheel back in your hands.

What Is The Secret?

The answer is not complicated, and that is the point.

Your thoughts control your life. That is the secret. And of course, you control your thoughts.

Stuberg notes that researchers estimate we have around 50,000 thoughts in a 16-hour day, and every one of them, however small, produces a result. Thinking you will never finish your work by five o'clock nearly guarantees you will not. Thinking the more you do, the more you become, sets a very different outcome in motion. The basics rest on common sense: thought shapes action, action shapes results.

How Does The Secret Actually Work?

This idea is not new, and Stuberg grounds it in centuries of thinkers. Marcus Aurelius wrote that a man's life is what his thoughts make of it. Ralph Waldo Emerson said to think is to act. Descartes observed that it is not enough to have a good mind; the main thing is to use it well.

The mechanism is the human mind itself, which creates rather than merely computes. The challenge is that surrendering that power is easy. It is easier to watch TV than read a book, easier to believe what you are told than to think critically, easier to follow the crowd than to blaze a new trail. Using your mind well takes deliberate effort, and that effort is exactly where your life begins to change.

Action Steps

  • Run an honest self-evaluation: name what you are genuinely satisfied with and what you are not, across career, health, family, and social life.
  • Trace your current results back to the thoughts and attitudes that helped create them, without blaming outside circumstances.
  • Catch the moments you talk yourself out of a dream, and treat them as decisions you can revisit.
  • Replace limiting thoughts with ones that expand what you expect to receive, since life tends to deliver what you expect.
  • Find mentors you can learn from, whether through audios, podcasts, videos, or live events, the way George keeps learning from Robert Stuberg.

When you know the secret and apply it wisely, opportunities, good advice, and helping hands tend to line up as though the world were conspiring to help you. You are the architect of your actions and the source of your own experience. Tune in for part two, where George shares how to apply these principles to make key decisions, take your dreams further, and master your emotions. It is never too late to start living the life you were meant to live.

Welcome back to The Daily Mastermind, George Wright III with your daily dose of inspiration, motivation, and education. I am super excited to talk with you this week. We have so many things going on. We're launching our brand new weight loss product. We've got a new team that we have that we're going to be working with over in Texas. But I'm excited to share with you a couple of things because many of you have been talking to me about how frustrated you are in life, how you want to make a change, how you want to be able to have new ideas and opportunities. And yet it's ironic to me that we are in probably the best time in my lifetime that there is to create opportunities. And yet so many people are struggling. They're struggling. And I tell you, this week, I want to start us off with just a little bit of wisdom from one of my mentors, Robert Stuburg. Now, Robert passed away a few years ago, and I will tell you that's been a difficult thing. But what I do at times is I will listen to some of the audios and teachings that he's had. And it's just a great prime example of the fact that whether you believe you have mentors in your life or people that you surround yourself that'll help you, you have access to so much information. All you need to do is apply your interest level, your passions, and find yourself someone, something that can continue to inspire you. So I want to share something with you. Robert and I, over the years, have had so many discussions about what it's going to take for people to change their lives. And it always boils back down to your mindset and your thoughts and things like that. And one of the things that I will go back to every once in a while that I just love is Robert did a program, boy, really early on, and it's called The Secret. Now, many of you may have heard of The Secret because you're familiar with the program and the video that kind of circulated a while back. But prior to that, Robert actually created a program called The Secret. And it's an amazing program. It's two parts. And I'm going to share part one with you today. And then I'll share part two with you tomorrow. But part one really talks about this idea of what is the secret and discovering the secret in your life. And I want you to listen to this with two things in mind. Number one, that you can receive the motivation and inspiration you need by simply finding mentors that you can have in your life, like Robert, like individuals, whether it's audios, podcasts, videos, YouTube, whether it's live in person or in events, you can find people that can pull out of you what I know you have the ability to create, which is you have greatness inside of you. You have everything you need. You just need to push yourself outside your comfort zone. So today we're going to talk about discovering the secret. And second, tomorrow, we're going to talk about in part two, applying the secret and applying the principles that will help you to not only create in your life, but make key decisions, take your dreams to the next level, and then master your emotions. And so I hope you'll enjoy this. I'm not going to talk anymore. I'm going to go ahead and turn it over to Robert, and I will talk with you again tomorrow morning. Why is it that at a time in history when we have the most opportunities for happiness and the most chances for prosperity, more people than ever seem to be dissatisfied with what's going on in their lives? Think about it for a moment. Everything you could possibly want out of life is more abundant today than ever before. And yet all we seem to hear about is what we lack. This disturbing trend shows up best in a poll I recently discovered. work. In answer to a series of questions created to measure general happiness and satisfaction, 90% of the respondents indicated that they were not satisfied, were dissatisfied, or were very dissatisfied with at least one major area in their lives, including career, marriage, family friends health body image and leisure activities 90 Worse a significant number of respondents displayed dissatisfaction with multiple areas and for these people the amount of overall life satisfaction is correspondingly lower. I confess I wasn't surprised by these results, but I was a little disappointed that they were taken in stride by so many of the people with whom I discussed them. It's perfectly natural I heard time and time again. Nobody can be satisfied with everything I was told. It's not realistic to expect that someone could have it all and fulfill all of his or her dreams and visions. Being happy all of the time is impossible. Do you feel this way too? If you do, I'd like to ask you to think about some important questions. When did you decide that you couldn't have it all? Because no matter how much you already have, if your life isn't exactly as you want it now, you've made that decision at some point. So when did you decide that you couldn't have it all? At what point did your magnificent and expansive dreams become incarcerated in the narrow and confining structure that most people call the real world? How did you start talking yourself out of realizing your true and full potential, out of being happy each and every day of your life, about every area of your life, out of achieving all of the things you always wanted? The world didn't always seem so confining, did it? In the innocence of childhood, most people saw the world as a vast and magical place filled with endless possibilities for joy and love and success. and we understood instinctively that those things were available for the taking. To our young eyes, the adults around us were people who could do anything and we created elaborate visions of what we would do when we took our place among them, when we could do anything too. So again, my question to you is this. When did you decide that you couldn't? When did your old visions start seeming impractical or even impossible? When did reality become an obstacle to what you really want in life? When did your fears take over? Now, of course, there are some people out there to whom this doesn't apply. They are that extremely small percentage of the population who are living their dreams, who are making their most cherished visions into reality, who are happy and content beyond measure, who have everything they want and want everything they have. These are not genetically superior people gifted from birth with extraordinary powers, nor were they necessarily launched from advantaged backgrounds. They're simply people who have discovered and applied, consciously or unconsciously, the secret. Many others listening to this message will believe it doesn't apply to them. They have either forgotten their visionary innocence, have trapped themselves inside a barrier of hopeless fears, or at the other end of the spectrum are the people who are convinced they know the secret, but whose actions and results tell quite a different story. I believe, however, that the majority of people, and you're probably among them, suspect there is more to life than they are currently realizing. You perceive something elusive going on behind the scenes that explains why a few dreams and visions and desires are happily realized while most others are abandoned in favor of something thought of as more sensible. You sense that there is something that explains why some people can make millions of dollars and be miserable and some people can live without any money at all and be ecstatic. You know that it's possible to have more of the things you want to have and be more of the things you want to be. If only you knew how. And let me tell you, you're right. I've spent years traveling the world, studying philosophies both great and long forgotten, and surveying thousands of happy and successful people from all walks of life. And in processing this information, I've discovered that there is a very real system that explains mysteries of happiness and success. There's a very real process for making your dreams come true and reaching your full potential as a human being. This knowledge has had a tremendous impact on my life and on the lives of the people I've shared it with. And today, I'm going to share this life-changing message with you. This is Robert Stuber, and I want to tell you the secret. Your thoughts control your life. Your thoughts control your life. That's the secret. Your thoughts control your life. Were you expecting something else? Something more complicated? Something more powerful? But what could be more powerful or more empowering? The secret says that your life is not controlled by random events unless you want it to be. That you're not the victim of others' actions unless you think you are. That if you don like something you have the power to change it And that if you desire something anything it well within your power to get it Your thoughts control your life And of course you control your thoughts It's the ultimate marriage of science and magic and common sense. Researchers tell us that we have at least 50,000 thoughts in a 16-hour day. 50,000! Considering that every innovation, every bit of progress, and every human victory that we've known has had its genesis in one single thought, all of us have thousands of opportunities to make a tremendous impact in the world every day we're alive. And every single one of our 50,000 thoughts, no matter how insignificant it seems, creates a result in your life. Thinking I'm hungry will lead you eventually to get something to eat. Thinking I'm cold will lead you to put on a sweater. And thinking I'll never get all this work done before 5 o'clock is a guarantee that you won't. Just as thinking something along the lines of, the more I do, the more I become, and the more I become, the more I have, is a great way of getting yourself to accomplish a lot more in the same amount of time. So you see, the basics of the secret are firmly grounded in common sense. Your thoughts control your life, and you control your thoughts. You're probably thinking, I knew that, and of course you did on some level, although you may have never put it into those terms. But now that it's been brought to your attention, now that you have a simple phrase to keep in your mind, imagine how different the world will seem to you now. Your thoughts control your life. How does that universal law apply to the lives of the people you know? What does it mean for the people you know who complain all the time or are constantly getting sick? How does it explain the increased prosperity, happiness, serenity, love, and health in the lives of the people who have the exact same potential for these things as everyone else, and yet somehow have a gift for attracting them in greater amounts? What sorts of thoughts are these people allowing themselves to think regularly? What are the thoughts that have created their lives? And what are the thoughts that have created your life so far? If you're seriously interested in changing the way you live, you must first honestly acknowledge the way things are now and identify the thoughts and actions that went into creating that state. Ask yourself the following questions as a part of a thorough and thoroughly honest self-evaluation. What is your life like now? What are you satisfied with? What things about it make you very happy? What are you unhappy with? How well are you doing at living up to your ideals? What is your health like? Do you enjoy your career? Is your family life generally healthy or dysfunctional? How's your social life? Each of these situations, in fact, every situation in your life, is created by your own actions, and your actions are guided by your thoughts and attitudes. You really can't credit another person or an outside occurrence for the events in your life You're not a victim unless you think you are You're not the plaything of fate unless you think you are What you really are is the creator of your thoughts The architect of your actions and the source of your entire experience If you truly feel you have no control You are creating that lack of control with your thoughts There is an infinite amount of creative power available to each and every one of us and each and every one of us decides exactly the amount of that power he or she will access and use. And that decision is made in the thoughts we choose to have every moment of every day. Your thoughts control your life. That is the secret. Later in this message, you'll learn how to apply that immensely powerful lesson to create the life you most want to live. But first, I'd like to reflect a bit on how and why the secret works. As I mentioned earlier, the secret has been the subject of much exploration over the centuries. The Bible, Mark 9, 23 says, If you can believe, all things are possible. The French philosopher and mathematician Rene Descartes is perhaps best known for his philosophical breakthrough, I think, therefore I am. The Roman emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius said, A man's life is what his thoughts make of it. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, To think is to act. Daniel Webster revealed his version of The Secret when he said, The mind is the great lever of all things. Human thought is the process by which human ends are ultimately answered. And Charles Darwin in his epic Descent of Man said The highest possible stage in moral culture is when we recognize that we ought to control our thoughts Each of these brilliant thinkers was familiar with the secret in his own way They were also in awe of the mechanism by which life-controlling thoughts are produced, that all-powerful miracle we call the human mind. Nothing else on earth comes close to comparing with the strength and ability of that three-pound organ nestled right between your ears. Computers may process and access information faster, but they were invented by the human mind merely as a tool to extend its own reach. And no computer can approach the intuitive powers of the mind to think and feel and respond to stimuli. The mind creates, while computers can ultimately only compute. It's said that we commonly use only 10% or less of our brain's potential, but look at what we've accomplished on only that much. Every aspect of our civilization, every innovation, every problem we've conquered, and even every problem we're working on conquering, is a testament to the power of the human brain. It took untold millions of years for the earth to form and life to evolve, but only a few thousand years for humanity to progress from bands of hunter-gatherers to the complex society we have today. This is not to say that we don't have our problems, but only to illustrate that few phenomena in the universe have matched the sheer force of something we take very much for granted every day, the power of our own minds. Our minds have collectively done so much on a grand scale that we indisputably have the power to affect our own individual lives to an equal degree. And yet, most of us surrender this power. Another of Descartes' sayings was, It's not enough to have a good mind, the main thing is to use it well. But how many people can be said to truly use their mind well? The trouble is, it's so easy to get by without making that effort. It's easier to watch TV than read a book. It's easier to believe what you're told than to think critically. It's easier to lie out in the sun than to learn something that will stimulate your mind. It's easier to follow the crowd than blaze a new trail. A Buddhist philosopher once said that everyone is given the key to the gates of heaven, But the very same key opens the gates of hell. And whether you choose to take that literally or figuratively, the implications for this message are obvious. Just as the minds of all humans have completely shaped the modern world, your own mind gives you the ultimate control over the condition of your life. It's a power that can raise you up to the highest levels of success, joy, and love. Or conversely, you can use that power to create unhappiness, envy, loneliness, or depression. In other words, you can actively be a part of the solution or a part of the problem. The great thing is you have the ability to choose. Remember, your thoughts control your life and you control your thoughts. And if your thoughts have created a life that has so far been frustrating, then changing your thoughts the right way will change your life to the one you most want to live. It's really that simple. Your thoughts shape your actions, your attitudes, your words, and your energy. All of these have a monumental effect on your individual life, but their effects also resonate into the world around you, and you get back what you put out. You see, life gives each of us exactly what we expect to receive, and those expectations are expressed through our thoughts, words, actions, and attitudes. When you know the secret and apply it wisely in your life, you can expect to receive so much more than you would have otherwise. Opportunities, coincidences, good advice, helping hands. These will line up as if the universe itself were conspiring to help you reach your full potential, to make your dreams come true, to truly be happy all the time. Why does this happen? Is it magic, a universal law, or maybe you'll just be in the frame of mind to notice more? Who can say? All I can tell you is that it works. It's worked for me over the years and it's worked for so many people I've met and interviewed. and it will work for you too. I promise you. Please continue listening to this message to find out how. And remember the secret. Your thoughts control your life. You are the monarch of your own inner kingdom and the riches you generate can spill out into your outer life if you only let them.
