Stop Chasing Opportunities. Start Attracting Them.

Watch
Listen

Most entrepreneurs assume the reason bigger opportunities aren't showing up is effort. Not enough hustle. Not enough outreach. Not enough leads. In this episode of The Daily Mastermind, George Wright III offers a different explanation: maybe you haven't yet become the person those opportunities require. You can build the campaigns, set the goals, and chase the next client — and there's nothing wrong with any of that — but the biggest breaks in business and life rarely come from doing more. They come from becoming more.

That shift is the difference between chasing and attracting. One keeps you sprinting. The other changes who you are so the right doors start opening on their own.

How to Attract Opportunities Instead of Chasing Them

If you want to attract opportunities rather than chase them, the work starts with you, not your funnel. George points to his own experience: being contacted by the Franklin Planner Podcast wasn't the result of a cold outreach campaign — it became a huge opportunity because he had already built the substance behind the name. More recently, he's closed deals with large banks in Pittsburgh and interviewed three of his top ten best-selling New York Times authors. He credits the shift directly: he stopped chasing all the opportunities, and once they started coming in, it blew his mind what was available.

That doesn't mean you sit back and wait. You still network, still build relationships, still go take opportunities yourself. The difference is that you're no longer burning all your energy on pursuit, because you've become someone better equipped to create, handle, and attract what comes.

The mechanism underneath it is identity. How you see yourself affects the decisions you make, the standards you maintain, the relationships you pursue, and the risks you take. Here's the trap most entrepreneurs fall into: they want the rewards of their next level while operating with the mindset, habits, and standards of their current level. You want the bigger business, but you make decisions like someone running a small one. You want influence, but you hesitate to share your opportunity. You want premium clients, but you're uncomfortable communicating the value you bring.

At some point you've got to recognize that the next level of your business is going to require the next level of you.

That's why clarity, focus, and discipline matter so much. Personal growth isn't just about becoming a better human being — it's about developing the capacity to create the results you say you want.

The Question to Ask Yourself Today

What would the next-level version of you prioritize? What would that person believe, or think differently about? Not next year. Not when you have more money or more confidence. Today. If that person were here right now, how would they run your calendar, your conversations, and your standards? The question you ask is what gives you the answer — so ask a better one.

Visible vs. Valuable: Build Substance First

We live in a world where everyone wants attention. Followers, expert status, influencer labels, thought leadership. But there's a fundamental difference between being visible and being valuable, and a lot of people have it backwards. They spend all their energy trying to get noticed and forget they first have to be worth noticing.

A powerful personal brand has to be built on something real — your experience, your expertise, your character. Before you get someone's attention, you have to earn their respect, and consistency is what builds that reputation over time. Simply having a big audience won't hand you the outcomes you're after. What you bring to that audience will.

So stop asking only how to get more people to know who you are. Start asking how to become more valuable. Build the substance first, then make sure the right people can see it. That's how real authority gets created.

Why Confidence Comes After Action, Not Before

George talks with entrepreneurs constantly who are waiting for the right moment. They want to feel ready, gain a little more experience, perfect the strategy. But confidence doesn't arrive first and give you permission to act — it's produced by acting.

Confidence doesn't come before action. Confidence comes as a result of action.

You build it by doing difficult things, by preparing, by making and keeping commitments to yourself, and by stepping into situations where you're totally uncomfortable. That's where you discover your capabilities expand further than you believed. And this matters because opportunities rarely arrive when you're ready for them. Sometimes you have to step into the bigger role first. Sometimes you share your perspective before you feel like an authority — before imposter syndrome gets a vote.

This isn't an argument for bad risks or pretending to be something you're not. It's an argument for refusing to let the absence of confidence become the excuse you use not to take action. Every commitment you follow through on builds trust in yourself, and every meaningful action expands what you believe is possible.

Your Personal Brand Is an Asset — Position It

There are incredible entrepreneurs with deep expertise, experience, and real accomplishments whose opportunities stay limited — not because they lack ability, but because few people outside their immediate network know they exist. Value that nobody can find doesn't convert.

Your personal brand isn't just a logo or a business. It's what people believe about you — the problems they trust you can solve.

Think about how powerful that becomes when someone needs an expert in your industry and your name immediately pops into their mind. When a potential client searching for solutions discovers your expertise and credibility right there. None of this happens automatically. You have to be intentional about the relationships you build, the conversations you have, and the ideas you share. You can't create the impact you want to make when people don't know who you are or where to find you.

Action Steps

  • Identify one specific opportunity you'd love to attract in the next 90 days — a new client, a strategic partnership, a speaking platform, an expansion.
  • Ask the identity question: Who do I need to be in order to be ready for that opportunity? Name the skill to develop and the standard to raise.
  • Take one action this week that you don't feel fully ready for, and let the confidence follow the action instead of waiting on it.
  • Audit your value before your visibility — then get intentional about putting that value into the marketplace.
  • Download the free Authority Blueprint at authoritymedianetwork.com to help position your personal brand.

Take direction, take action, and allow space for attraction. When you do these things consistently, something begins to change — you make better decisions, communicate with more conviction, and get comfortable operating at that next level even before you're there. You have greatness inside of you, and it's never too late to start living the life you were meant to live.

[00:00:05] All right, welcome back to The Daily Mastermind. [00:00:10] George Wright III with your daily dose of inspiration, motivation, and education. Listen, what if [00:00:15] the reason that you're not attracting the opportunities that you want in your business and life isn't [00:00:20] because you're not working hard enough? I know we're all grinding, but what if it's because you haven't [00:00:25] yet become the person that these opportunities require for them to be attracted to you? [00:00:30] I know that sounds a little crazy, but think about that for a minute. As an entrepreneur, we're constantly looking for [00:00:35] the next opportunity, you know, the next client relationship, whatever it is, and we built these [00:00:40] strategies. You know, we're out there setting goals and creating marketing campaigns and trying to figure everything out.[00:00:45] And there's really nothing wrong with what you're doing. But what I wanna share with you is a [00:00:50] perspective that I definitely think can fundamentally change the way you approach [00:00:55] success, and it's this idea that instead of constantly chasing opportunities you want, you start [00:01:00] becoming the person who attracts them. Because the greatest [00:01:05] opportunities in your business and life don't always come from just doing more and going out and chasing them. Sometimes they [00:01:10] come from becoming more. It's the reason I got contacted by the Franklin Planner Podcast to [00:01:15] do that, which became, as many of you know, a huge opportunity. So that's what I wanna talk to you about today.[00:01:20] I wanna talk about how your identity determines your direction. And, you know, one of the most [00:01:25] important lessons I've learned over the years is that your identity has a tremendous influence on your [00:01:30] results. how you see yourself affects the decisions that you make, and it affects the [00:01:35] standards that you maintain, and it also affects the relationships that you pursue. You know, all, all the risks that [00:01:40] you take and ultimately what you do, it's your identity. And here's the problem. A lot of [00:01:45] entrepreneurs want the rewards of their next level of success, but they're just operating from a [00:01:50] mindset or habits and standards of their current level. You want the bigger business, [00:01:55] and you wanna still make decisions like somebody who's running a small business, or you want [00:02:00] a lot of influence, but you're hesitant to share your opportunity. See, [00:02:05] if you want premium clients, but you're uncomfortable communicating [00:02:10] the value that you bring, that's a problem. And, you might want more opportunities, but you're not [00:02:15] consistently putting yourself out there in situations, and at some point you've gotta recognize that the next level [00:02:20] of your business is gonna require the next level of you. It's why I focus so [00:02:25] much on clarity, focus, and discipline because personal growth isn't just about becoming a better person, [00:02:30] it's about developing the capacity to create the results that you want. So here's the question I'd [00:02:35] encourage you to ask yourself: What would the next level version of you [00:02:40] be? What would that person prioritize or believe or think differently about? [00:02:45] Not next year, not when you have more money, not when you have more confidence, but today. Like, if that person [00:02:50] was here today, because the question that you ask is gonna give you the answer, [00:02:55] and I'm telling you right now that you've got to become valuable [00:03:00] before you seek recognition. You've got to be that more valuable [00:03:05] version of yourself. So let me just connect something for you here that I believe is pretty important business. [00:03:10] You know, we live in a world where everyone wants attention. Oh my gosh, everybody [00:03:15] wants followers. They want to be recognized as an expert or an influencer, a thought leader, and there's a [00:03:20] fundamental difference between being visible and being valuable. But I believe a lot of people get that backwards. [00:03:25] See, they believe that they, you know, and they spend all their time, for example, trying to get noticed and get visibility, but they forget [00:03:30] that they have to actually be worth noticing So there's nothing wrong with obviously [00:03:35] getting visibility, but I believe there are things that are super important [00:03:40] based on, you know, growing your business, which include being valuable. And a [00:03:45] powerful personal brand has to be built on something that's real, your experience, your expertise, your [00:03:50] character. And before you get visibility and before you get someone's attention, you gotta earn their [00:03:55] respect. And consistency is what builds your reputation, and it builds [00:04:00] your respect. So chances are it's not simply having a big audience [00:04:05] that's gonna give you the solutions that you want. You've gotta bring something that [00:04:10] your experience, perspective, and value is to them that will help them to solve a [00:04:15] problem, and that's what I want you to focus on. Don't just ask yourself how you can [00:04:20] get more people to know who you are. Ask yourself how you can become more valuable. This is all part of your identity. [00:04:25] How do you become more valuable? And you gotta do that through being effective and consistent. But you gotta build [00:04:30] your substance first. Once you build, like, who you are, then you can make sure the right [00:04:35] people can see you, and that's how you begin to develop real authority When you know you have value and you're creating value in [00:04:40] the marketplace, there's another important part of becoming the person that [00:04:45] attracts opportunity. It's confidence. You know, I talk with entrepreneurs all the time who are waiting for the right [00:04:50] moment. They wanna feel ready. They wanna have enough experience or get a little better or, you know, perfect strategy. [00:04:55] And what I've learned is that confidence doesn't come before action. Confidence [00:05:00] comes as a result of action. You develop confidence by doing difficult things, by [00:05:05] preparing, by gaining experience, by making commitments to yourself, and by stepping into [00:05:10] situations where you are totally uncomfortable, and that's where you discover that your [00:05:15] capabilities are gonna expand, and that's that's actually where you really discover what you're capable of. And this [00:05:20] is important because opportunities rarely arrive when you are all ready [00:05:25] You know what I mean? They don't arrive when you're ready for them. Sometimes you have to step into a [00:05:30] bigger role before, in order to get that opportunity in. Sometimes you have to share your perspective before [00:05:35] you feel like an authority or before you actually It's this imposter syndrome a lot of people struggle with. [00:05:40] Before you're certain about things. Now, I'm not suggesting to take, you know, bad [00:05:45] risks or pretend that you are what you're not. I'm just suggesting that you stop allowing the absence [00:05:50] of confidence to become the excuse you're using not to take action.[00:05:55] Because every time you follow through on a commitment, you actually are gonna build trust in yourself and you'll develop new skills [00:06:00] and increase your capabilities. And every time you take meaningful action, you [00:06:05] expand what you personally believe is possible. Remember, confidence [00:06:10] isn't something you wait for. It's something that you build. And as you grow your confidence, so does your [00:06:15] willingness to pursue bigger opportunities. You're gonna actually stretch yourself So the other [00:06:20] thing I wanted to mention is that you've gotta position yourself for bigger opportunities. You've got the identity [00:06:25] you're making sure you're valuable, you're building confidence. But I want you to make one more [00:06:30] connection with your personal development and your actual business. Because [00:06:35] being more valuable is super important, but you [00:06:40] have to know the value that you're bringing. See, I've met a lot of incredible entrepreneurs over the years, [00:06:45] you know, people that have, like, tons of expertise and experience and accomplishments and people would [00:06:50] actually would be really huge, but here's the challenge. A few of these people outside their immediate [00:06:55] network, few of these people actually expand themselves, and as a result, their opportunity is limited, not [00:07:00] necessarily because they lack ability, but because they actually now do lack the visibility. And [00:07:05] so that's why I believe that your reputation and your personal brand are so important as far as an [00:07:10] asset, and I've said this before, your personal brand is an asset. Your personal [00:07:15] brand isn't just a logo or a business, it's what people believe about you. It's the problems that [00:07:20] they trust that you can solve and the value that, you know, they expect you can bring. So think about how powerful [00:07:25] that can become when you build a personal brand. When somebody needs an expert in their [00:07:30] industry and your name immediately pops into their mind. You know, when a potential client is searching for solutions, they [00:07:35] discover that your expertise and credibility is right there. And none of this really happens automatically. You [00:07:40] have to be intentional about the relationships you build, the conversations you have, and the ideas that you [00:07:45] share. Because you can't create the impact that you wanna make [00:07:50] when people don't even know who you are and they don't even know where to [00:07:55] find you. So you have to actually position yourself and push your [00:08:00] value out there into the marketplace, and that's when, you can kind of bring it all together. If you wanna [00:08:05] attract greater opportunities into your business and life, don't focus exclusively on finding them. Focus on [00:08:10] becoming the person who's prepared for them. So you gotta get your identity, you gotta raise your [00:08:15] standards, you gotta build your capabilities and your value, right? And then take action to create confidence, [00:08:20] and then become genuinely valuable and visible [00:08:25] And when you're intentional about building that relationship that you have or [00:08:30] that reputation that you have with the marketplace, that's when you're gonna start seeing some results. [00:08:35] Because when you do all those things consistently, something begins to change. You start making better [00:08:40] decisions. You're gonna begin showing up differently. You're gonna communicate with better conviction. [00:08:45] You're gonna feel more confident, right? But you become more comfortable operating [00:08:50] at that level even before you're there. And over time, you create the [00:08:55] conditions for all these relationships and clients and new opportunities to sort of come your way. Now, [00:09:00] that doesn't mean every opportunity's suddenly gonna just come knocking at your door. You still gotta do the work. You gotta get out there and, [00:09:05] you know, build relationships and network and take opportunities yourself. But at least you're [00:09:10] not out there chasing all the time because you become someone who's better equipped to actually [00:09:15] create it, handle it, and attract it, and that's the difference. See, I want you to really start to [00:09:20] grow into the version of yourself that will attract those opportunities, and you'll start to expect them, I promise you.[00:09:25] So here's the challenge that I wanna give you. I want you to identify one [00:09:30] opportunity that you would love to attract over the next 90 days. It's all about engaging that [00:09:35] reticular activating system as well. Maybe it's a new client, a strategic partnership.[00:09:40] It's an opportunity to speak, lead, or expand your business. Whatever it is, you know, just get clear on some new [00:09:45] opportunity you want to have come your way, and then ask yourself one question Who do I need [00:09:50] to be in order to be ready for that opportunity? What skill do you need to develop? What [00:09:55] standard do you need to raise? So over this fourth quarter, you're gonna see we're gonna be dropping some really, really big [00:10:00] stuff. We just did a couple of deals with some large banks in Pittsburgh. I've been able to interview [00:10:05] three of my top 10 best-selling New York Times authors. I just put it out [00:10:10] there and it's interesting because I've stopped chasing all the opportunities, and man, once they [00:10:15] start to come in, it will blow your mind what's available for you. But you have to change your [00:10:20] identity in order to get that stuff coming your way. So, if you're having trouble with that, let me know. If you're [00:10:25] winning at that, let me know. Another thing I can do to kinda help you is, as you know with our marketing company, [00:10:30] Authority Media Network, we have Authority Blueprints. You can go over to [00:10:35] authoritymedianetwork.com. You can download our free Authority Blueprint, which helps you to sorta position your [00:10:40] personal brand. I'm happy to help you. Hit me up on the show notes here and let me know what you're working [00:10:45] on. But ultimately, just remember this: you have awesome potential inside of you. You [00:10:50] have greatness inside of you, and it's never too late to start becoming the person, having the business, living the [00:10:55] life that you're meant to live. But you do gotta take some direction. You gotta take some action and [00:11:00] allow space for some attraction. I know it sounds crazy, but I promise you, as you start to become [00:11:05] the best version of yourself and act today like that person, it's gonna, it's gonna blow [00:11:10] your mind. You're gonna have some amazing things happen. So that's my message for you today. I hope you have an [00:11:15] amazing week. I'm really excited.
