Living With Intention and Purpose: Robert Stuberg's 7-Step Framework

Listen

George Wright III opens this episode of The Daily Mastermind with a challenge: how often do you start your week with real intention? Not just a to-do list, but a genuine framework that connects your daily actions to the life you actually want to create? In this solo episode, George shares a seven-step process he received from his mentor Robert Stuberg, a framework called the Lifetime Success and Fulfillment Process.

Robert Stuberg spent decades working with Nightingale Conant, coaching thought leaders and developing programs for some of the most impactful minds in personal development. The framework he created is designed to take you beyond surface-level achievement and into genuine fulfillment. George returns to it again and again as a way to stay grounded, gain perspective, and make sure he is moving in the right direction.

Why Your Thoughts Are the Starting Point

The first step is what Stuberg calls the Secret: the single most powerful idea in the world. Your thoughts create your life. This goes beyond what most people call the Law of Attraction. It involves your DNA, your environment, your daily focus, and the person you are in the process of becoming. When you fully accept that you are the creator of your life, everything else in this framework becomes possible.

How the Questions You Ask Shape Everything

Step two follows naturally from step one. If your thoughts create your life, then what creates your thoughts? The questions you ask yourself. Most people carry one or two primary questions that run in the background of their minds at all times. What do people think of me? How can I make this better? What is my purpose? These questions evolve through different seasons of life, but they are always operating.

Don't go another day without discovering the key question that is controlling your thinking and shaping every aspect of your life.

When you ask better questions, you get better thoughts, and better thoughts produce better results. The process of asking questions alone can surface solutions you never knew were there.

What Emotions Are You Really Chasing?

Step three shifts the focus inward to the emotions you are actually seeking. George puts it plainly: most of us are chasing things, whether a promotion, a car, a relationship, or a dream, because of how we believe those things will make us feel. Love, respect, recognition, security, peace of mind. The things themselves are temporary. The emotions are the real target.

You can never get enough of what you don't really want.

Robert Stuberg gave George this line as a reminder that drifting through life and pursuing the wrong outcomes is a trap. When you identify the emotions you genuinely need, you can build your goals around them instead of discovering too late that you climbed the wrong wall.

Finding and Applying Your Unique Talent

Step four is discovering your unique talent: the ability that defines you and delivers the most value to the world. George describes it as the intersection of what you are excellent at and what you are passionate about. Many people spend their careers in areas where they are merely competent. Competence alone does not produce fulfillment.

George uses himself as an example. He has built companies, led teams, and driven results throughout his career. But the shift that brought him real fulfillment was applying those skills in the service of others, through personal development, financial education, and business mastery. That is the secret ingredient: not just knowing your unique talent, but deploying it in service of other people.

Setting Goals That Are Actually Worth Pursuing

Step five is goal-setting, but with a critical qualifier. You can put your ladder of success against a wall, climb all the way to the top, and realize you chose the wrong wall. George does not sugarcoat this:

Setting and pursuing the wrong goals in life is worse than having no goals at all.

The goals worth pursuing are the ones tied to your unique talent, aligned with the emotions you want to experience, and worthy of your time. Chasing the wrong goals breeds disillusionment with goal-setting itself. The right goals give you unbelievable focus and power.

The Formula for Turning Vision Into Results

Step six is the formula. Once you know what you are building, you need clarity, purpose, strategy, priorities, and all-out massive action. These five elements together form a game plan that, when followed, makes success a near-certainty. Knowledge and intention alone are not enough. The formula is what transforms them into outcomes.

Staying on the Path for a Lifetime

The seventh and final step is the path itself. The journey of a lifetime requires ongoing growth and abundance. George reminds you not to be fooled by shiny objects or distracted by the noise of comparison. Stay on your path. Accept the lessons you are learning. Be grateful for the growth that comes from every season, not just the wins.

Action Steps

  • Spend 10 minutes this week writing down the one or two primary questions running in the background of your mind. Are they serving you?
  • Identify the emotions you are truly seeking. List them out. Let those emotions guide your goal-setting instead of external markers of success.
  • Name the area where you are excellent and passionate at the same time. If you cannot name it clearly, consider working with a coach or mentor who can help you see it from the outside.
  • Audit your current goals. Are they connected to your unique talent and your target emotions, or have you been climbing the wrong wall?
  • Commit to the formula this week: write down one goal, then map out the clarity, strategy, priorities, and action steps needed to move it forward.

Living intentionally is not a one-time decision. It is a practice built on the right framework, the right questions, and the right goals. George Wright III and Robert Stuberg's seven-step Lifetime Success and Fulfillment Process gives you exactly that. It is never too late to start living the life you were meant to live.

READ THE FULL TRANSCRIPT

All right, welcome back to the Daily Mastermind, George Wright III with your daily dose of inspiration, motivation, and education. I hope you're off to a good start this morning, and I want to continue that momentum, or at least get you started, with the quote of the day from the Daily Mastermind mobile app. And the quote is, one man practicing sportsmanship is far better than a hundred teaching it. One man practicing sportsmanship is far better than a hundred teaching it. I think that's a great quote. Listen, today I want to talk to you about a framework to get your week started. How often have you gotten up on Monday morning, or whenever it is you're thinking about this, or listening to this podcast, how often do you think about the intention of what you're going to build your week on? How often do you think about how specific your actions and things can be to carry you towards your best life? And so I want to talk with you about a framework, a foundation that you can use this week to really guide all of your actions. I want you to be able to go into this week with purpose and passion for the life that you want to create. And that's why I appreciate you listening. I appreciate you being part of our daily mastermind. I know it's a struggle every day. You've got to be able to create that mental discipline, that consistency, and that commitment to your life. And, you know, as I start this week, I think something that might be able to help you is a principle and teaching that one of my mentors, good friend, that spent a lot of time helping me to create direction in my life. His name is Robert Stuburg. and Robert developed over many, many, many years of his life working for Nightingale Conant and creating programs and coaching and things for some of the greatest thought leaders out there. He created this concept called the Lifetime Success and Fulfillment Process and the Lifetime Success and Fulfillment Process is all about the path and the journey that you go on throughout your life creating success and fulfillment and you know we talk a lot about the fact that the path is the key the process the growth the experience that you have as you go throughout your life and so this framework that he developed is something that i always use to kind of keep me grounded give me milestones perspective reflection on where i need to go and it's all about how to go beyond success and achievement to find real fulfillment um and remember you know he used to always say to me you can never get enough of what you don't really want. And what he means by that is that so many of us are just drifting through life. We're just, we're going through life and we're thinking about the things that we don't want and we're attracting those things into our life. So today I want to talk to you about this simple seven-step process. It's seven steps that are going to help you to stay focused and create direction, purpose, and drive in your life. And the first step, the first step in this process is understanding the power of the secret. And the secret is that single powerful idea. It's the most important thing in your life. And it's the idea that your thoughts create your life. Because your thoughts really do create your life. And your thoughts are made up of everything from your DNA, your environment what you focused on But it important to realize that you do create your life and that your thoughts do create your life And this is the real secret that you have to understand And when you live in that space where you believe and you understand and you accept this process of you are the creator of your life and you create your life and your thoughts create your life, well then it really leads you to the second step. And the second step is where do our thoughts come from? Well, our thoughts come from the questions that we ask ourselves. And this is made up of things that, you know, what are they thinking of me? How am I going to get this done? And most of us have one or two really primary questions in our life. And if you haven't spent time trying to dig into this and understand this, you've got to understand that your thoughts creating your life are guided by the questions that you have. And if you have this underlying premise, and I found this with so many people that I've worked with, both professionally, personally, you probably have a question that you're constantly trying to ask yourself. Whether it's, what do they think of me? Or how can I make this better? Or what do I do? What's my meaning in life? Whatever it is. And sometimes these primary questions change as you go through the seasons of your life. But don't go another day without discovering the key question that's controlling your thinking and shaping every aspect of your life. And you might find yourself just asking yourself questions like, what is it? What is driving me? Why do I do certain things that I'm doing? Why do I continue to experience the challenges or the things in my life? And when you ask a better question, then you'll get better answers and you'll get better thoughts. and even just the process of asking questions will help you to discover solutions in your life. And you can't discover solutions if you don't ask the right questions. So that's so important. So you go from the secret of your thoughts create your life to the questions that are shaping your life. And then third, it moves you to the emotions. These are the conditions that you are seeking. Because most people, they don't really know what they want in life. And remember, as I said earlier, you can't get enough of what you don't want. So don't get trapped in this idea of achieving and working and grinding and not knowing exactly what it is that you're trying to accomplish in your life. And I think if you look deep enough, one of the things I learned, and it took me a while to learn this because I chased a lot of things throughout my life. But I think what I've learned is that we are all seeking the emotions that things will get us, that we think the things that we want in our life will get us. Think about it for a minute. The promotion, the car, the trips, the relationships, the situations, the dreams, the perfect days that we want in our life, all are ultimately going to give us some type of emotion. whether it's love or respect or accomplishment or recognition, whatever those feelings are, ultimately in this life, the only thing you're really going to get is the emotions that come from the activities and the things that you get in your life. And so what are the emotions that you're looking for? What are the ultimate target and outcomes that you want? Because when you live intentional, you're looking to create things in your life that will provide that life that you want, which is the emotions that you want. What are the emotions you need? What are you looking for? Is it security? Is it peace of mind? Is it clarity? Is it success? Is it health and vitality? Is it happiness Those emotions when you guide yourself with those emotions they allow you to create the questions that are going to shape the thoughts that are going to then create your life So we move from step one being your thoughts create your life to the questions that shape those thoughts to the emotions that you're seeking. And then comes the fourth step, which I believe is so powerful when you really understand it. And that is your unique talent and ability. These are the talents and abilities that define you. And deep down, we all have a unique talent. Because, you know, life really will reach a plateau for you if you don't start to really focus and hone in on what that unique talent is. And the best way I could describe this is what I was always told and what, you know, Robert, when we've had our mentoring over the years, you know, he's told me, what is it that you're excellent at and passionate about? What is it you're excellent at and passionate about? Because so many of us live our life in areas we might be good at. Unfortunately, a lot of people live in areas of their life that they're just competent at or that they're not competent at. And that makes you feel like you're on a grind. You're just doing what's needed to get by. Are you in your job right now just doing your job? You feel good, but it's just areas you're competent at. Or are you working on areas in your life that you excel at, that you are strength, that you are creating massive results? But then you have to attach this other piece, which is that you're passionate about, that gives you fulfillment, that gives you meaning, that helps you to create change. I'll give you an example. I've always been really good as the CEO of companies or starting companies. I've always been really good at execution and strategy and team building and vision and creating results. I mean, I've created some significant results in my life. But at the end of the day, a lot of times those results, have you ever felt like the results you're getting just don't really fulfill your ultimate passion and purpose that you want to create in your life, the impact you want to make? And so I have shifted more towards the idea of personal development, financial education and business mastery and helping and guiding others to be able to do that. It's one of the reasons why I have an event coming up at the end of March for business growth, because I can teach and live and practice business growth. But when I do it in the service of others, when I do it, helping others to accomplish their goals, well, by default, I'm operating inside my unique talent. I'm also creating success. but I'm doing it by identifying the unique talents that I have, that you have, and applying it in the service of others. When you do that, that's that secret ingredient, applying it in the service of others that helps you to maximize your return, not just financially, but also emotionally and through your fulfillment. So the talent, the unique talent, I encourage you to really identify. It's sometimes hard to identify something like this yourself. That's why a coach and a mentor can help you because it's hard to look at yourself and get those answers sometimes. But you need to pursue and identify your unique talent. And then fifth, you get to the goal. The goal is what gives you meaning and satisfaction. Remember, you can set goals your whole life. I've set goals my whole life. You could put that ladder of success against a wall and climb that ladder and get to the top and realize you put your ladder on the wrong wall, right? You climbed the wrong mountain And a lot of times unfortunately we have to get to the top before we realize we got the wrong journey going So the most important thing here is and listen to me when I say this setting and pursuing the wrong goals in life is worse than having no goals at all. Because you get this massive, massive disappointment. So this is probably why so many people become disillusioned with the idea of goal setting in the first place. Don't spend your life chasing the wrong goals. Learn to pursue the goals that are worthy of your time and talents that will give you the emotional end game, the reward that you're looking for and develop you as an individual. So setting your goals is very, very important. Then the next step is the formula. And the formula, we'll talk about this a little bit later this week. The formula is the only formula for success that really works. And as you get into the formula for creating success, and once you identify what it is that you're trying to create in your life, the formula is the thing that's going to help you to apply it. Because you've got your thoughts, you've got your talents, you've got your emotions, you've got all these proper questions, and you've set some goals. But the formula that you need to use involves a combination of clarity, a combination of purpose, strategy, priorities, and then all out massive action. You've got to be able to put all of those things into a game plan. Clarity, purpose, strategy, priorities, and action. And when you do that, you're guaranteed to succeed. You're guaranteed to succeed. And then the final step, the seventh step that I think is so appropriate that Robert added that to this seven-step lifetime success and fulfillment process is the path. Because remember, the journey of a lifetime has to involve growth and abundance. And the only life worth living is a life of ongoing growth. And that's why you're here listening to The Daily Mastermind. It's why you're trying to accomplish things in life. But don't be fooled by the shiny objects in life. Make sure that you have a path that you're accepting, that you're on the right path, and that you're identifying and you're grateful for the lessons that you're learning throughout your life. So once again, this process of the lifetime success and fulfillment process of identifying your thoughts create your life, asking the right questions, seeking the right emotions, finding your unique talent, setting the right goals, following a formula, a proven formula for success, and identifying and growing on the path. Those seven things, if you use that as a framework this week in your life and as you move forward this week, everything you do intentionally geared towards taking you down this path, at the end of the day, I promise you, you're going to have more success and fulfillment. But more than anything else, you are going to feel along the path that you're making progress. And that's going to give you the emotions that you're looking for. So I hope those are thoughts that can guide you throughout the week. We'll talk a little bit more about that throughout the week. But I really want to encourage you to spend time this week being intentional with every single thing that you do. And I look forward to talking with you more tomorrow. If this is your first time listening, make sure you like and subscribe to the podcast so you don't miss any episodes every day. and I hope you have an amazing day. We'll talk with you soon.
