George Wright III opened season 10 of The Daily Mastermind at episode 1,063 with a question that cuts to the core of why so many people finish January in the same place they started: are you making a living, or are you designing a life? That distinction, drawn from one of his longtime mentors Jim Rohn, sets the stage for everything in this episode: a foundational reset on how to think about goals, intentions, and the beliefs that shape your results.

This is not a typical goal-setting talk. George argues that before you write down numbers and deadlines, you need a quantum shift in your philosophy. The kind of shift that changes not just what you pursue, but who you become in the pursuit of it.

Why Your Thoughts Are the Starting Point

The most basic truth George returns to is this: your thoughts create your life. Not as a motivational catchphrase, but as a functional framework. What you think about, you focus on. What you focus on, you create. If your mental frame is narrowed to "how do I hit my revenue target," you may hit it and still feel like something is missing. The frame you look through determines the results you get.

George has lived this progression personally. He started his career setting external goals in sales and revenue, and they worked. Then he shifted to internal goals and personal development, drawing on Jim Rohn's principle:

Success is not to be pursued, it's to be attracted by the person that you become.

That shift brought more fulfillment. But the real breakthrough, what George is advocating now, is building a foundation that holds both the internal and external game at once. That is the quantum shift.

The 12 Prosperity Pillars: A Foundation That Scales

George has spent 25 years studying thought leaders, from Tony Robbins and Robert Kiyosaki to T. Harv Ecker and Les Brown, along with seven, eight, and nine-figure entrepreneurs and multibillionaires. Everything he learned distilled into 12 core principles he calls the Prosperity Pillars, covering mind, body, money, business, lifestyle, relationships, and communication. The 12 are:

1. I create my life. 2. I take personal responsibility. 3. I act in spite of my mood. 4. I surround myself with positive people. 5. I focus on solutions. 6. I create an attitude of abundance. 7. I choose to be happy. 8. I always think win-win. 9. I'm committed to lifelong learning. 10. I create daily rituals. 11. I attract success. 12. I visualize and manifest my life.

On the surface these may feel familiar, the way Think and Grow Rich feels familiar on a re-read. That familiarity is the point. George notes that Think and Grow Rich is one of the most widely read books ever written outside the Bible, and these principles take on deeper meaning as your life evolves. The first pillar, "I create my life," is where everything starts.

What It Really Means to Believe You Create Your Life

As Les Brown has said, greatness is within you. But believing that is not passive. It is a conscious choice to reject the idea that your past or your current circumstances determine your future. George makes this explicit: you have to believe that you create your life, and that your internal beliefs do not dictate where you are going.

When you genuinely accept that belief, you stop waiting for conditions to be right. You stop looking at where you are and start designing where you are headed.

Intentions vs. Goals: Why the Distinction Matters

Here is where George challenges conventional goal-setting. He is not against goals, but he believes how you set your goals matters as much as the goals themselves. Most people ask: what do I want to do, what number do I want to hit? George says that is often the wrong question.

A mentor told him early in his career: it is not the thoughts you have that matter most, it is the questions you ask yourself to create those thoughts. So the better question is not "what do I want to do?" It is "what kind of life do I want to live?"

He points to John Lee Dumas, founder of the Entrepreneurs on Fire podcast, as an example. Dumas decided he wanted freedom and flexibility, so he built a lean operation on three or four people. George himself once ran a business that reached $200 million a year with 500 employees, and all the stress that came with it. He now knows you can achieve that scale of impact with a fraction of that weight, but only if you start with the right question.

Set intentions with specifics. Ask yourself what emotions you want to feel, what lifestyle you want, who you want around you. Then build your goals inside that container.

How Daily Rituals Turn Intentions into Results

Intentions alone do not move the needle. George stresses that once you have a clear intention, you need daily rituals and habits aligned with it. If your intention is to stay focused and clear, that points to practices like meditation and journaling. If your intention is physical health, that means consistent movement and fitness. The ritual should serve the intention directly.

This is how you close the gap between where you are and the life you are designing. The rituals become the daily votes you cast for the person you are becoming.

Action Steps

  • Ask yourself honestly: are you making a living or designing a life? Write down what you actually want your life to look and feel like before you set a single goal.
  • Review the 12 Prosperity Pillars and identify which ones you are actively living and which ones need attention.
  • Start with Pillar 1: "I create my life." Make a conscious, written declaration that your past and current circumstances do not determine your future.
  • Replace at least one vague goal with a clear intention backed by specifics. Instead of "grow my business," define the lifestyle that business is meant to support.
  • Choose one daily ritual this week that directly supports your deepest intention and commit to it for 30 days.

It is never too late to start living the life you were meant to live. George Wright III makes the case that this is not just another year to set goals; it is a year to make a genuine quantum shift in how you think, what you believe, and how you show up every single day. The foundation is already inside you.

I hope you're having a great start to your new year. And whether you are or whether you aren't, that is why I'm here. I'm here to help you get yourself on track and also give you a little bit of that inspiration, motivation, and education that you can play into your day-to-day and your week-to-week. So what I want to do, I want to talk to you about today. And by the way, I'm super excited because this is season 10 of the podcast. We're now doing, I think this is, gosh, episode 1063. So it's been a journey. And for those of you that have been listening to the podcast for a long time, I appreciate you. I appreciate your support. And for those of you that are first time listening, This is what we're going to do. We're doing things a little bit different this year because I've got the daily podcast designed to really lead you through a path of mind, body, money, business, and things that are going to take your entire life to the next level. Remember, my goal with the Daily Mastermind is to help you to unleash your potential and truly create the life that you are meant to live. And so on Mondays, I am always going to start you out with those core principles. The Daily Mastermind is designed to be a place that you can go so that you can share in the ideas, thoughts, strategies, and tactics that I've learned over the last 25 years from some of the biggest thought leaders, celebrities, experts, and individuals that I've had the opportunity to mentor with. And so on Mondays, I always want to start your week off with some core pillars. There are timeless principles of success, of happiness, peace, and also prosperity that I think you're going to benefit from. And those are generally based on the prosperity pillars because there are strategies and tactics and things you can use. But at the end of the day, you need a foundation. Then Tuesday through Thursday, going into this first quarter, I'm going to really double down on business for you guys. I'm going to work really heavily on giving you the strategies and tactics that it takes for you to create authority in your marketplace and in your industry and niche, but also ways that you can truly take your business to the next level and grow. But I always want to cap the week off. I kind of bookend it with core principles and with lifestyle. And the lifestyle are strategies and tips that I picked up on ways that you can, whether it's your mind, body, money, business, you can take your overall life to the next level. That's the reason we're doing what we're doing. You need to be able to learn to live an epic life. So this week, we're going to be focusing today on the principles, but also Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, we're going to set up what I'm going to do this month as covering the core topic of authority marketing. So throughout the next four weeks, I'm really going to drive deep into the topics of authority marketing. And so join me during the middle of the week so that you can get a lot of those strategies and tactics on how to get your strategy, your authority, your technology, your marketing, everything moving forward to grow your business. So today I want to talk to you about how you can crush your goals by getting yourself set up the right way. And I like to begin the year generally with this quote from Jim Rohn that I really love. And it really brings you back to that basics of, you know, he said, and remember, Jim Rohn is one of the fathers of personal development. He's one of my mentors and one of the individuals that really set up over time these timeless principles. He said, we all have two choices. We can make a living or we can design a life. So he talked about this, you know, two choices that you have of basically making a living or designing a life. And it's the question that I want to ask you, what are you doing right now? It's a pretty powerful concept to think about. But are you starting your week, your month, your year out, trying to find how to set goals to kind of take your business to the next level of things But how many of us are just going through the day like we did last year like we did the year before where we doing the things inside the philosophy and the framework that we've already created in our life, and we're not getting outside that framework to say, hey, are we designing and creating a life, or are we just trying to make a living? And I want you to really think about that a little bit. Even if you've done some of your strategic planning for the year, which one are you doing? Are you just making a living, getting by, taking your goals, setting new ones, or are you designing and creating the life that you were meant to live? Because let's be honest, your focus of what you're focused on, the area, the frame you're looking through, it's going to determine your results. So many of us wake up each week and we're just like, man, where did the time go? You probably noticed that over the holidays. Where did the time go? And, you know, as you do that, what you're starting to realize is that there are core principles that maybe you're implementing into your life, maybe you're not implementing into your life. But one of the biggest principles of success that you can really, truly begin with to create your life is this idea called the secret. And that's the thing we've talked about in the past. Mentors have talked about it over the years. And that is that your thoughts create your life. your thoughts create your life. And I bring you back to that basic idea because what you think about, you're going to focus on. What you think about, you're going to create. So rather than, here's the problem. The reason I tell you this is this. I'm pretty convinced that if you're listening to this podcast, you're setting goals and you're trying to find ways to take your life to the next level this year. But I want to ask you, why are you setting goals? Why are you setting benchmarks. What I think you really truly need is a foundational shift in your thinking. Because I believe most of you know that your thoughts create your life, but you need a foundational shift. Let me give you an example of what I mean. Over the years that I've had a career, I used to start by setting goals. And to be quite honest, that served me well. I would set goals in sales and revenue and business, and I made more money, and I had a better lifestyle, and I grew. But there's a point time where, if you know some of my background, I learned from mentors I worked with that it's not just about chasing success, it's about becoming a better person. And so I kind of shifted my thinking and my focus into personal development. So what I was doing is I was going from setting external goals to internal goals, and I was trying to focus on creating that personal development. You know, like Jim Rohn says, you know, success is not to be pursued, it's to be attracted by the person that you become. And I started to see more of a shift in happiness and fulfillment and success in that form. What I'm suggesting to you now is what I'm doing. And that is, rather than setting goals on your external and setting, or even just focusing, hyper-focusing on your internal game, I think you need to set a foundation for both. And in order to set a foundation for both, you've got to work on your philosophy. You've got to work on, it's a quantum shift into how you think about goals, how you think about your internal and external game. And so it always comes back to these core timeless principles I've learned over time, the prosperity pillars. The prosperity pillars that I talk about, and look, the prosperity pillars, for those of you that don't know, I'm looking up on my wall right now, there are 12 principles, 12 core principles that I have found over time from all of the thought experts. I mean, we're talking, you know, I've worked closely with everyone from Tony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, T. Harv Ecker, to celebrities, athletes, you know, seven, eight, nine figure individuals, people that you'll know like Les Brown to you know multi billionaires And I learned all of these things fall into these 12 core principles And these are principles that extend to your mind body money business lifestyle, relationships, communication. And the 12 principles, if you think about them are, I'll just go through them real quick for you. I create my life. I take personal responsibility. I act in spite of my mood. I surround myself with positive people. I focus on solutions. I create an attitude of abundance. I choose to be happy. I always think win-win. I'm committed to lifelong learning. I create daily rituals. I attract success, and I visualize and manifest my life. Now, on the surface, those 12 pillars are like anything else, like when you read Think and Grow Rich. On the surface, they make sense. They're empowering. They help you to create a better life. But I believe that if you dig deeper into these principles, what you'll learn is the kind of principles that I've learned every time I reread, reread, I hope that's a word, reread, read over Think and Grow Rich or other books. You know how sometimes you can go back to timeless books that have created success for millions of people. By the way, one of the most read books ever outside the Bible is Think and Grow Rich. I'm not sure if you knew that. but it's because these principles, as you dig into them, take on more meaning as your life goes on. They also find, you find that you can go down and learn more and more. So why am I bringing this up? Because if you're going to make a foundational shift this year and you're really going to have a quantum leap in the way you think, it still goes back to these timeless principles. And so today, I'm just going to remind you about the very first principle, and that is I create my life. I create my life. It all starts with this principle of I create my life. Now, a mentor of mine, Les Brown, says, you know, greatness is within you. We all have the power and the greatness inside of each of us to create the life we're meant to live. But you have to believe that. You have to believe that you create your life. And if you have trouble with believing that right now, you can do a lot of different things to change that. And we'll talk about that in a minute here. But first and foremost, you have to believe that you can create your life. and that circumstances, including your past and your internal beliefs, do not dictate where you're going. It is your conscious choice to believe that you can create your life. So once you do that and you dig deep, you then have to set, and I would say intentions. So, you know, many of you may have set some goals for the year. I don't necessarily believe anymore that goals are the thing you need to set. I'm not saying you shouldn't have goals. I'm just saying that setting intentions with specifics are far more productive. I'd like you to, you know, because here's the thing, if you, if you don't have goals of where you want to go in life, chances are you're not going to end up where you want to be. But as you grow, you know, people used to ask me, you know, I guess my point is this, how you set your goals is just as important as the goals you're setting. Because people used to ask me, what do I want to do? What major do I want to have in school? What kind of job do you want to have? And I think they're asking the wrong question. A mentor of mine a long time ago, a good friend said to me, he said, it's not important that you know your thoughts as much as the questions you ask yourself to create those thoughts. So what questions are you asking yourselves around your goals? In other words, instead of what do you want to do, how do you take your business to the next level, I suggest you ask yourself, what kind of life do you want to live? What do you want your life to be like? If you're going to start creating and designing your best life, don't begin by being very specific. Begin by asking for what you truly want. Because the power of intention is that you can get what you really, really want, but you can also get what you really really don want And what I mean by that is if you ask yourself what can you do to take your business to the next level And all that does is creates more and more work and time and inflexibility in your life And that not what you want Then you setting the wrong goals So ask yourself this Ask yourself what do you want your life to be like Because if you going to create your life what emotions do you want to have What type of lifestyle do you want to have Who is it you want to have in your life What type of thoughts memories actions because when you start with that, John Lee Dumas, who started the podcast Entrepreneurs on Fire, is a good example of this. He said to himself, I want to have a very free, flexible lifestyle. So I'm going to run my business on three or four people. Whereas I in the past have run a business that has gone to 200 million a year and we had 500 employees and it was tons of stress. I now can run that type of business with 10 employees. So you have to ask yourself, what do you want your life to be like? And I believe that, like I said here, if you believe and you start to accept that you can create your life and then you set intentions with specifics, then, then and only then you can create daily rituals and habits that will lead you to manifest those intentions or to create those goals and targets that you're looking for. For example, If your goal is to stay focused and clear on where you're going, maybe meditation and journaling and, you know, those types of activities. If your goal and your intention is to live a more healthy lifestyle, maybe your daily rituals are working out and fitness. Now, maybe it's all of the above. But what I'm trying to say here is that I believe this year you need a quantum shift in your thinking. And one of the ways to do that is to create a solid foundation. and I think the core principles, the 12 prosperity principles and pillars still apply. And so when you start with, I create my life, and you really believe that that can happen for you, and you set intentions, not just goals, but intentions of what you want your life to be like, and you surround and envelop those in daily rituals and habits that will take you there, now you're off to a great start. And that's the thought I wanted to share with you today, because even though you may have already started your year, I think it's super important that you don't just start going down the path you might have already been going down every year in January, that you start down a path that's going to lead you to the intention you're trying to create in your life and accept that not only you can create your life, but that you're going to have a quantum shift this year. I really believe that it's never too late to start living the life that you're meant to live. And it's never been simpler and easier to do it quickly. And I don't mean success overnight kind of thing. I'm talking about immediately and quickly creating a life that you're happy, satisfied, and fulfilled with, but also one that brings you the success that you want this year. So that's my message for today. I'd like to encourage you to go over to our website. You can join our free community. You can look at the different things that we have going on.
