Be the CEO of Your Life: Build the Mindset to Take Charge

Listen

George Wright III opened this episode of The Daily Mastermind with a quote from Mel Robbins that sets the tone perfectly: you are not a procrastinator; you have *habits* of procrastinating. That one distinction matters more than it might seem. The label you put on yourself shapes how you show up in every area of your life: your health, your relationships, your business, your finances. And when you change the label, you change the game.

In this episode, George proposes a powerful reframe: stop thinking of yourself as a passenger and start thinking of yourself as the CEO of your life. That title comes with real responsibilities and real authority. A CEO sets the rules, clarifies the vision, leads the way, and executes relentlessly. You can claim that role in your own life starting today.

What It Actually Means to Be the CEO of Your Life

The CEO framework is not about arrogance or pretending everything is perfect. It is about taking deliberate ownership. A CEO of a company deals with fires all day long and still moves the mission forward. George points to leaders like Gary Vaynerchuk as examples: they spend their days putting out fires, but they deal with it because they have a CEO mindset. You build the same capacity by identifying and strengthening the qualities, traits, skills, and attributes that let you take charge instead of react.

How the 12 Prosperity Pillars Build Your Foundation

George's first recommendation is to live the 12 Prosperity Pillars, a set of inner and outer game principles he developed over 20 years working with leaders in wealth, finance, and personal development. Several of them map directly to the CEO mindset:

  • I create my life. You take the ball and run with it.
  • I take personal responsibility. No blame, no excuses.
  • I act in spite of my mood. Show up even when you don't feel like it.
  • I focus on solutions. Don't get stuck in the problem; create results.
  • I create an attitude of abundance. Scarcity thinking stalls execution.
  • I create daily rituals. Consistency compounds over time.
You've got to act in spite of your mood. Even if you don't feel like getting out of bed, even if you don't feel like going to the gym, you've got to act in spite of your mood.

These pillars are not a motivational poster. They are a practical operating system for how you make decisions and how you treat setbacks.

Why the People Around You Determine Your Ceiling

George's second step is to surround yourself with winners. You are, as he puts it, the average of the people you spend the most time with. If access to mentors and high achievers is limited in your immediate circle, the online world removes that barrier entirely. Podcasts, books, YouTube channels, and communities built around growth give you daily exposure to the thinking of people who operate at the level you want to reach. There is no longer an excuse for not engineering your environment.

Why Execution Beats Waiting for Confidence

The third step is simply to start moving. George is direct: a CEO is an executor. They eliminate indecision, say yes, and figure it out as they go.

Confidence, unlike self-worth which is something that's maybe internal you need to work on, confidence builds with success. So by moving, you can fail your way to success and you can increase your confidence through that.

This is a critical insight. Many people wait to feel confident before they act. But confidence is built through action, not the other way around. Win the moment. Win the hour. Win the day. Small wins compound into the kind of confidence that carries you through bigger challenges.

How to Hack Your Inner Game with an Alter Ego

George goes deeper on one specific tool for people who struggle with imposter syndrome: developing an alter ego. Standard affirmations and "fake it till you make it" tactics often fail because your subconscious mind does not respond to language. It responds to feeling. If your inner game doesn't believe what your conscious mind is saying, the words fall flat.

An alter ego works differently. It gives your subconscious mind a role it can inhabit and believe. George cites Beyonce's Sasha Fierce, Kobe Bryant's Black Mamba, and even Superman's Clark Kent as examples of high performers who created a separate identity to operate beyond their comfort zone. When you step into that alter ego, your brain says "I believe that" and starts producing results that match.

What happens is your subconscious mind says, okay, I believe that. And it just makes stuff happen.

This is not a trick. It is how the brain works. You have done it your whole life every time you got lost in a movie, a book, or a video game. You can use the same mechanism intentionally.

Action Steps

  • Review the 12 Prosperity Pillars and identify which two or three you are not currently living. Focus there first.
  • Audit your environment. List the five people or content sources you spend the most time with and ask whether they are pulling you toward your goals or away from them.
  • Start before you feel ready. Pick one decision you have been delaying and make it today. Motion creates momentum.
  • Design your alter ego. Give it a name, a set of qualities, and a specific context where you will call on it. Practice inhabiting that role until it feels natural.
  • Track small wins daily. Confidence grows from evidence. Keep a short log of what you accomplished each day to reinforce your CEO identity.

You have the capacity right now to take charge of your health, your relationships, your wealth, and your personal development. The title of CEO is not reserved for corner offices. It belongs to anyone willing to claim it. It is never too late to start living the life you were meant to live.

welcome back to the daily mastermind my name is george wright the third with your daily dose of inspiration motivation and education all right so the quote of the day today i want to go through this with you because i had a thought as i was coming back from my morning workout and this this quote goes right along with it and the quote is by mel robbins and it says you're not a procrastinator you have habits of procrastinating. You're not a procrastinator, you have habits of procrastinating. So I want to look at this for a minute and I want to ask you a couple of questions. How do you see yourself? How do you show up in the game of life? How are you showing up in your relationships, in your business, in your health, in your fitness, in your personal life? How are you showing up and how are you labeling yourself? Are you labeling yourself a procrastinator? Are you labeling yourself successful, unsuccessful? How are you labeling yourself? And I want to talk to you today about developing better habits, but I want to talk to you specifically about becoming the CEO of your life. So what does that mean? I mean, what does the CEO mean? What I'm talking about is finding a way to identify in yourself the qualities, traits, skills, and attributes that help you to take charge. A CEO takes charge. A CEO, by the way, sets the rules. A CEO leads the way. A CEO develops the vision of what it takes to execute for a company. And you can do this in your life. You can do this in your health, in your fitness, in your wealth, in your relationships, in your spirituality, whatever it is. You can become the CEO of your life. And I want to propose that to you because in my life, I've developed a CEO mentality and it's really served me well. and I think it's something that you can utilize in order to take your goals and your vision and your life to the next level and create the life that you were meant to live. So what are ways, I was thinking of this on the way home today, what are some ways that you can develop a powerful CEO mindset? And I could go on and on and on about this and maybe we'll do some additional episodes later but there's three things in particular that I feel you can do. The first is that you can absolutely live the 12 pillars. The 12 prosperity pillars that I developed, it is not just a cool poster, okay? I admit it is a very cool poster. But it's also 12 specific inner game, outer game character traits or principles or values that I've picked up over 20 years of working with the biggest names in wealth, finance, personal development. So let's just take a second on this. Number one, I create my life. You've got to take control and you've got to take the ball and run with it and developing a CEO mentality will help you do that. Then I take personal responsibility. CEOs take personal responsibility of their life and then I act in spite of my mood. A CEO acts in spite of their mood. Even if you don't feel like getting out of bed, even if you don't feel like going to the gym, even if you don't feel like going into work, even if you don't feel like executing and making that call or treating that person well, whatever it is, you've got to act in in spite of your mood. I surround myself with positive people You gotta surround yourself with positive people and build a team I focus on solutions I focus on solutions Look shit happens A CEO has to deal with it They don get stuck in the problem. They focus on solutions. And from focusing on solutions, they create results. I also create an attitude of abundance. That's another prosperity pillar. An attitude of abundance will help you to perform. I choose to be happy. I always think win-win. I am committed to lifelong learning. I create daily rituals. I attract success. I visualize and manifest my life. A CEO's got to have vision. And these 12 prosperity pillars are just one way that you can start with a foundation of values and principles that can help you to become the CEO. Because guess what? Life is going to throw all kinds of things at you just like a typical CEO would do. Look, guys like Gary V talk about the fact that they've got great content out there online. They got a bunch of things, but they spend their day putting out fires all day long. You don't know that because they just deal with it. Guys like Gary and many other of my mentors, they're individuals that just get it done because they have a CEO mentality. So the prosperity pillars is the place I would start. Number two, you've got to surround yourself with winners. Winners surround themselves with winners. That's why I, and look, if you don't have people in your life, because I get it, you know, some of you may not have access to, you know, mentors and successful people. But that's the beauty and privilege of having this online world we have. You know, I've listened to podcasts like The CEO Project, like Ed Milet, Gary Vee, Joel Olsteen, Joel Olsteen, Mike Dillard, Russell Brunson. I mean, there's so many excellent examples of CEOs that you can inundate and just soak up in your life that there's no excuse for not surrounding yourself with winners because you're going to be the average of the people that you spend time with. The third thing, and here's the thing. I want to try to keep this simple because we don't have a lot of time. These pillars are a foundation. Surround yourself with winners. And the third thing is just to move, just to start acting and creating action. Because here's the bottom line. A CEO is an executor. They eliminate indecision. They say yes, and then they figure it out. They clarify their vision. They strengthen your confidence as you go. you've got to be able to just start moving because confidence unlike self-worth which is something that's maybe internal you need to work on and we can talk about that another time confidence builds with success and so by moving you know you can fail your way to success and you can increase your confidence through that so you've got to find daily wins but if you're moving and you can create wins and you can win the day you can win the moment you can win the hour you can win the day you're going to start moving forward and a CEO is an executor. So absolutely start with the pillars, the pillars, I'm sorry, the pillars of prosperity and then move to surrounding yourself with the right environment and then start executing. Now, I know what you're thinking. I know you're thinking, what if I don't have the confidence? You know, what if I don't have the resume that you do, George What if I don have the skills What if I not a CEO Well listen first of all and most importantly and I want you to listen to me for a minute here that a bunch of excuses You got to stop making excuses because you can make excuses or you can have success It's like T. Harv Eker talks about, and I learned from him, you can have reasons or you can have results, but you can't have both. So that's the first thing. Second, I understand how you feel. Look, many of us have felt the same way. You might have a little bit of that imposter syndrome. You might feel like you're not enough. You might feel like you don't have the confidence. But here's the bottom line. Let me give you one hack that I've used in my life and many, many other people have used in their life. And this hack is how to sort of hack your inner game. And the way you can hack your inner game, and a bunch of mindset coaches would tell you this, is to develop an alter ego. And you can tune in Friday. I'm going to go ahead and give you a little bit more on this. I'm going to really get into detail on it, but I just want to give you this to walk away with. The reason affirmations and positive talk and fake it till you make it doesn't always work, you might be doing affirmations your whole life and it's not working. The reason acting as if doesn't work is that you can fool other people, but you can't fool yourself. You can't fool your inner game, your mind. You must understand that all of your creation in your life, all of your results are going to come from your subconscious mind, not your conscious mind. You can't just say it and have it happen if your subconscious mind doesn't believe it. But your subconscious mind, which is kind of your limbic brain, right? This part of your brain, unlike your conscious mind, your conscious mind, your neocortex, the subconscious mind doesn't really understand language. It only reacts to what you feel. So when you try to fake it, your brain is saying, yeah, right. Look, I'm not feeling it. It's not true. you know you can you can say it out loud but but I don't believe it and we're going to get into details of how you can kind of get into that and make changes but you have to learn to convince your inner game your subconscious mind that you are a winner you are confident you are CEO so the hack that I would represent and kind of give you as an idea is learn to develop proactively work on developing an alter ego what I mean by that is this there's so many examples in our life of the most successful people out there in the world that knew that they needed to operate outside their comfort zone, outside their current skill level in order to create success. Because we've talked about success and your best life live outside your comfort zone. And so they created alter egos. I'll give you some examples. Beyonce Knowles. Beyonce, when she was young, just was petrified to be able to perform and things in front of people. So she created that alter ego. you probably have heard about it, Sasha Fierce. She even ultimately just recently or a little while ago did an album, I Am Sasha Fierce, because she knew when she created that alter ego, she could do anything on stage. Superman, Clark Kent. Now, most people, when you say, which is the alter ego, Superman or Clark Kent, they'd say Superman because he could do anything now. But with Superman, the alter ego was Clark Kent. He put the glasses on and he became, you know, someone that could fit in and blend in and do things with everybody. Colby Bryant is a great example. he created the Black Mamba. Colby Bryant I mean that was his alter ego and it was an ego that allowed him to do anything and be everything And so some of the most successful people and I go into this Friday but many many many examples of individuals that have created alter egos, because what happens is your subconscious mind says, okay, I believe that, right? And it just makes stuff happen. You've done this your whole life. You know this. When you were a kid, you pretended to be something. When you watch movies, have you ever watched a movie and you're so into the character that literally when they jump or they move or something scares them, you react because you feel like you're in that movie. You've done this with video games. You might be playing a game online and you become the character. And you convince yourself through these feelings in your mind that the movie, the game, the player, it's real. And by doing that, you can use that in business or in life or relationships to execute at a whole other level. This is why actors are so convinced of their roles when they've played them a long time, because they really dig into this role. And that's why actors that have acted together have fallen in love, because they believe that they're that role. So bottom line, here's the deal. There are plenty of ways that you can be the CEO. You just need to do it. And using a hack like creating an alter ego will allow you to do it quicker. And then as you create the successes, your confidence will grow. But the bottom line is you have to make a decision. I want to create the life I was meant to live. And if you make that decision, the best way to execute on it is to become the CEO of your life. Whether you want to increase your, you know, strengthen your relationships, better your health, better your business, better your wealth, better your success, better your personal development. You've got to be the one in charge. That is called the chief executive officer of your life, the CEO. so that's something I want to encourage you to adopt as a as a mantra as a role in your life tune in Friday because tomorrow we're going to get into some details but for now you know here's my recommendation for you if you want to create and what I mean on Friday is we'll get into some details of how you could hack this and create that alter ego I'll give you some examples and we'll get into some details and steps on how to do it better but if you want to create your best life, your best relationships, health, etc. Decide to be the CEO. Take time proactively to develop that title in your life, that alter ego, that commitment to being the one in control. Go through the prosperity pillars. Make sure that you make a commitment not only to the pillars, but to surround yourself with other people and to just start moving. That's what a CEO does. And what you focus on grows. If you focus on being the CEO, you will be the CEO. If you focus on building confidence, you will create confidence. If you focus on creating your best life, you'll create your best life. And that's my suggestions, ideas, and my inspiration for you today. I hope that's something that gives you some thoughts that you'll take to heart. Also, you know, listen, it would mean a world to me if you'd share this podcast, share this episode with somebody you feel like might need some help in taking control of their life and these might be some good ideas for them. And until then, I'll talk to you tomorrow. Once again, this is George Wright III and this has been The Daily Mastermind. and have a phenomenal day.
